Upslope are limestone outcrops and colluvial slopes with lush herb layer. At top of bluff is narrow red oak forest (NCTC.4). Beyond that are successional forests on old farmland.;Sloping floodplain where a small ravine approaches the river. Narrow toeslope was flooded recently, exposing and depositing silt, sand, and flotsam. There is a row of large sycamore and silver maples overhanging the river with shorter box-elder a bit uplslope. Herb layer is patchy due to flooding, but lush where it persists, dominated by bluebells in full bloom at sample date. Total herb cover reduced to 15% on July 26 revisit - most spring ephemerals gone.
Representativeness
Narrow linear patch of floodplain forest with sycamore and silver maple spaced at same relative elevation. Elevation range in plot is about 5 meters. Spring sample before full leaf out, but canopy cover estimated as leaf on. Vanderhorst revisit on July 2
