Paved access road is in dry ravine bottom just below plot. Most forests in vicinity are successional on old farmland.;Short west facing slope of ravine that feeds to river. Soil pH is acidic but limestone geology predominates in area. Community is a deciduous forest with mixed oaks including white, Shumard, and chinquapin. There is a well devoped tall shrub layer with pawpaw and black haw. Spring ephemeral herbs are abundant but super-calciphiles are lacking.
Representativeness
Small patch of intact forest on slope that was possibly too steep for farming. Will probably class as clacareous oak - hickory forest. Spring sample before full leaf out, but canopy cover estimated as leaf on. Revisit by Vanderhorst on July 26, 2011 to u
