Uphill on levee is a narrow bitternut hickory floodplain forest. Behind that is a primitive road/path, and beyond that are extensive box-elder thickets and pastures on old farmland in the 100-year floodplain.;Floodplain bank in front of levee. Site was completely flooded earlier this spring and lower half of plot was flooded again 2 days after sampling. Some trees along river edge were rooted in water at sample date. Large herbs are confined to the upper part of plot but seedlings and buried rhizomes are scattered throughout and will likely result in high herb cover later in season. Community is a deciduous forest dominated by large multi-trunked silver maple over a subcanopy of box-elder and paw-paw. On July revisit most of plot is covered by dry mud on top of spring herbs. Paw paw stem appear to be buried.
