Towards river grades to a narrow zone of Justicia americana. Away from river is woodland with higher grass cover, then more stable floodplain forest with back channel before hill up to railroad.;Floodplain with small boulder/cobble/sand substrate with woodland of sycamore and river birch with silky cornel and big bluestem dominant in the understory. Community is along straight rifle zone and has a very evn character with well spaced trees, low dominance and low species richness. Frequently flooded but not impacted by this summer's severe floods which were restricted to tributaies and their alluvial fans along the river.
Representativeness
Linear woodland about 40 meters wide for a long stretch along river - there is some gradient in plot corresponding to relative elevation/flooding regime with more sediment deposits away from the river which support higher cover by grasses.
