Oak dominated forest on residual soils of ridgetop and shoulders extends downslope on side ridges, but quickly grades to mixed mesophytic Acer-Aesculus/Laportea downslope in concave positions with colluvium.;Shoulder slope of mountain top with mixed deciduous forest with some high elevation indicators (eg. Acer pensylvanicum) but with mesic indicators (Aesculus flava) in understory. Coming up over the ridge from downslope, mountain top was noticably cooler and in fog.
