Narrow stream corridor (both N and S aspect with this c.t.) with hemlock dominance potential. Beach dominates successional overstory. Rhododendrons occur in patches and herbaceous understory is sparse and species poor. The community on the plateau above is dominated by Quercus prinus, Acer rubrum, etc...;The plot is located in a narrow northeast facing side of a ravine. There are many of these ravines dissecting the Kate's Plateau area.
Representativeness
Narrow corridors along cool ravine bottoms of E-W drainages dissecting rolling plateau with matrix of seral deciduous forest (Quercus prinus alliance).
Early successional stage. The area was logged in the past (old stumps in plot). There is an old roadway along the upper boundary of the community on the south side of the draw.
