The community is located in a zone, just south of the R.C. Byrd Locks and Dam, that has been highly modified by construction of the structures. It is also the location of the remnant of Flatfoot Creek and north of a much deeper and larger depression created near the earthworks on the Ohio River. There are some Populus deltoides saplings outside the plot.;The location is in a small depression south of the road, which has been elevated and has cut off the creek. There is much surface drainage and perhaps groundwater seepage into this depression. The plot includes mostly the willow thicket, but also a bit of moist opening with cattails, Sagittaria and Alisma.
