The occurrence is along a floodplain overflow channel near the Ohio and among corn fields. A diked open area of water lies just to the south and a narrow Acer saccharinum forest lies along the depression further north. Just south of the community is a small dense clump of Salix exigua. Along the edges of the community, close to the corn fields are areas of thick Phalaris arundinacea with some Asclepias vercticillata and Verbesina alterifolia.;There are cattle footprints throughout the area. Recent rains have perhaps caused the water to rise in the community from the area of open water to the south.
