Isolated mountain top with stands of Pitch Pine, stands of Spruce, rock fields, cliffs, and Oak orchards. TNC preserve.;Very few deciduous trees in stand. One stressed White Pine. Multi - aged dry plateau with sterile soils derived from sandstone. Stand dominated by dwarfed Pinus rigida with a little Pinus pungens. Nearly impenetrable thicket of Kalmia latafolia. Very low herb diversity needles forming hummocks around tree bases indicate no fire for a long time. Sapling Pitch Pine in low shrub layer probably <10 yrs old. Five pine trees were cored ranging from 32-72 years. See plot sheet for details.

Represents dwarfed, homogenous, thick stand of Pitch Pine with less Table Mountain Pine with dense Kalmia shrub layer. This plot was also used in the layout for L. Howard's transect plots (= 1F1).
