Steep upper slope above a natural water gap. To the NW ca. 0.3 miles is Seneca Rocks. The east face can be observed from the plot. The plot was placed above a large cliff on this side of Roy Gap. The rock is located ca. 150 m below the plot.;Stunted forest dominated by pitch pine - table mountain pine / mountian laurel. The slope is criss-crrossed with game trails. Both deer and bear scat observed in the plot. Many of the lower laurel branches have been browsed. Throughout the pine stand there are small patches with oak dominance (Q. coccinea, Q. prinus). This plot maximizes cover by pine.
Representativeness
Large patch of mixed evergreen deciduous forest. Plot was placed to sample edaphic pine community on thin soils. Similar to plots sampled on North Fork Mountain.
