Remote mountain ridge overlooking US Rt 33 and South Fork Valley. Just S of plot is a Virginia pine glade similar to plots on North Fork Mountain. Uphill is interesting hickory woodland which becomes more weedy upslope (cheat grass, garlic mustard).;Steeply sloping sandstone bedrock on upper midslope SE flank of mountain. Small ledges provide footing and habitat for herbs and tree saplings. Trees on edge of open glade are stunted or dead ~ open physiognomy is maintained by drought stress. Young trees are mostly white ash.
Representativeness
Most open aspect of sandstone glade/woodland. Plot covers ~1/2 of open physiognomy patch.
