Over hill of SE aspect are sandstone glades and associated, Virginia pine and hickory woodlands. Downslope is steep ravine, across it is US Rt 33, noisy from plot.;West facing slope of mountain in water gap at S end of Fisher Mountain. Soils are enriched by interbedded limestone - surficial rock tests + - with acid. Forest is maturing mixed oaks with mostly smaller sugar maple. Shrub layers are browsed out. Herbs are concentrated in patches, visable from distances, with abundant shooting star and Trichophorum planifolium. Tiny Maianthemum tucked under root is another indicator of heavy deer browse.
