Stand extends downslope to arm of reservoir with exposed barren shores with small flowing creek. To North the stand ends with abrupt change in age with evidence of cultivation (rock piles , fence lines) and more successional trees (Tuliptree, Cherry, etc.).;Old growth Oak forest on West slope of dissected uplands above Pleasant Creek (Reservoir) arm of Tygart Lake. Forest of large White Oak, Black Oak, Red Oak and Chestnut Oak with Maple saplings in understory. Greenbrier in shrub layer. Old growth features include abundant woody debris, snags, tip mounds, slope creep. No sawn stumps! Plot includes canopy gap from big tree fall upslope.
Representativeness
Older stand of Oak forest - fairly large stand with even composition - plot includes a cluster of the larger trees and lots of down wood and a snag. Laid out plot in early spring - plan to revisit.
