In both directions opens up to wetter woodlands with cottongrass.;Hummocky swamp forest in a band between 2 more open bog woodlands. Hydrology probably never inundated but subsurface saturation would likely qualify this as a wetland. Dryer site conditions may also be conducive to formation of closed canopy. Forest is strongly dominated by Picea rubens over bryophytes. Supposedly perched on Greenbrier limestone but material soil is acidic.
