Largest block of floodplain not in agriculture in the Tygart Valley as determined from photo interp. Floodplain forests observed: 1) successional Robinia 2) Beech /blue beech on spit 3) young buckeye forest.;Alluvial floodplain with a tall herb community dominated by Verbesina alternifolia with abundant Lilium superbum in full bloom. Very similar to tall herb c.t. at Camp Dawson, including the variable floodplain forests which compromise the matrix of this large floodplain block. Thought to be successional following agriculture, but there is little evidence of rapid woody encroachment. Community is likely flooded regularly including during the growing season.
Representativeness
Plot centered on tall herb community which grows between linear zones of successional floodplain forest.
