Highway (Rt 250) and old quarry to south and west. Limestone forest band extends north and south at about this same elevation along west flank of Cheat Mountain. Dryer aspects are dominated by oaks and shagbark hickory. Variation in composition is also related to past land use and stand age. Acidic forests predominate above and below this limestone band.;Successional forest on limestone outcrop ledges and colluvial slope with north aspect. Forest dominated by black cherry, sugar maple, and white ash. If left undisturbed the stand would likely succeed towards sugar maple - basswood with black cherry dropping out. At sampling date most of black locust are already dead. There is a diverse and lush herb layer with many calciphiles. Snow and frost occurred between 1st and 2nd visit resulting to frost damage to many herbs and shrubs.
