Landscape Narrative ? Noisy, residential neighborhood downhill across river. River is now a flood control reservoir through town. Uphill from plot becomes dry - mesic Oak forest, also Oak / ericad.;Forest of pole to medium sized trees growing on shoulder of steep shale bluff above the old river channel. Largest, tallest trees are Oaks. Hemlock is dominant in subcanopy and poised for climax dominance if it could survive the adelgid and / or logging. Lots of down, rotten wood. Stand may be recovered from natural disturbance event (wind storm, Chestnut blight?).
Representativeness ? Younger stand of Oak - Hemlock to compare to older stand that we place to sample next, and to Hemlock - Chestnut Oak at Bluestone.
