Agricultural and residential development surrounds swamp. Slightly higher floodplain has a red oak-beech forest with fewer wetland indicators. Oxbow features are visible on aerial photos.;Swamp forest in the floodplain of Tygarts Valley River. Large trees have buttressed roots and are well spaced. Very little regeneration. Trees include swamp white oak, red maple, black gum. Understory is dominated by heavy cover of skunk cabbage.
Representativeness
Swamp white oak continues as dominant in arm to south. Plot placed to include a couple of swamp white oaks, which are lacking in other areas. Red maple and gum repeat throughout.
