River valley and footslopes in private ownership. Floodplains are mostly converted to agriculture except for narrow forest edge and a few small patches of floodplain forest. Downstream is another larger patch of forest that is weedieer w/ parts almost entirely sycamore.;Floodplain of small, flashy river with levee and swale microtopography of sandy alluvium. Lots of exposed sand and little litter accumulation evidence of flooding earlier this spring. Community is a forest of medium sized sycamore, sugar maple, cherry and hickory. Trees are mostly rooted on levees. High density of ostrich fern in herb layer.
Representativeness
Near elevational limits of sycamore. Lower terrace floodplain forest. Sycamore-Sugar maple type with high cover of ostrich fern. More recently, more frequently flooded than RAND.38.
