The plot is located on a privately owned river penninsula. The Shavers Fork surrounds the property on all sides. Much of the surrounding land is either owned b or in the MONF proclamation boundary. The river is located ~205m south, 350m east and 360m north.;Sterile oak/heath forest. Most of the heath shrubs are browsed and there is little if any herbaceous layer. The forest floor has several large carpets of Leucobryum moss and is littered with flat sandstone rocks 2 inches thick and 0.5 to 1cm squared. The plot is located on a south facing shoulder slope on a large penninsula created by the Shavers Fork.
Representativeness
Small patch of old growth chestnut oak/Rhododendron maximum forest on private land. This is a very abundant type in the MONF but we have little, if any data on private property.
