Large tract of forested land on a narrow ridge surrounded on three sides by the Shavers Fork River. Much of the surrounding land is either owned by or within the MONF proclamation boundary. See RAND.54,55 and 56 for more context. Downstream ~100m is red oak and beech dominated overstory.;Hemlock-red oak forest growing on a narrow alluvial terrace. There are several large downed trees in the plot. One old red oak tree which has fallen into the river is over 90cm in diameter. There are several medium sized sandstone rocks in the plot appearing to have come from upslope. Little sign of flooding from this season.
Representativeness
Small patch of mixed evergreen deciduous floodplain forest. Plot was placed to capture large possible old growth hemlock trees in stand.
