Somewhat isolated stretch of River. There is a scenic railgrade located 160 yards W of the plot. Both slopes above the river are privately owned and likely managed as timber land. There may be a small amount owned by the USFS. The map shows an old jeep trail on the footslope above river right. There is a series of river islands up and down river w/ sycamore forests, red oak- sugar maple forests, successional tulip poplar forests, and successional black locust / wing stem woodlands.;Flood battered woodland along the Shavers Fork River. The plot is along river left at the "mouth" of a high water channel. Which creates a river island just downstream. There is flotsom and cobble in the plot, so it must flood frequently. Although there is an accumulation of this seasons leaves on the shrubland floor. The vegetation is rather dense although the Asteraceae are already in fruit. Several basal rosetts of Marshallia grandiflora were found in the plot. Several small fruiting long-stalked holly shrubs were alos observed.
Representativeness
Small patch of river scour shrub prairie. Represented by sycamore / big bluestem. Similar patches sampled below Stuart Park along the Shavers Fork and along the Cheat River below Parsons.
