Forests on soil are strongly dominated by red oak with small sickly hemlock.;Head of small drainage filled with bouldery colluvium. Boulders are relatively small (< 1 m long), of mixed colors, and lying at all angles. Colluvium is probably fairly shallow ~ road through it excavated down to soil (?). Deepest colluvium support forest dominated by sweet birch with black gum, and a few red oaks. Understory is dominated by ferns. Ferns stop at edge of boulders.
Representativeness
Small patch / linear in rock - river drainage at head of holler. Less than 100 m wide with sharp ecotone on edges to oak forest.
