Roadless tract of state forest with loop trail. Includes limestone geology, but only local enrichment is evident. White oak - white pine, red oak - hickory, basswood boulderfield.;Terrace above intermittent creek, never flooded but possibly an alluvial landform in much dissected Karst topography. Forest is mixed evergreen deciduous with large white pine. Hemlock, and red maple. Subcanopy of hemlock is dying from wool adelgid infestation. Forest floor has seedlings of mesic, shade tolerant trees.
Representativeness
Small patch linear terrace, but largest patch of hemlock seen along loop trail today. Similar plots at Calvin Price State Forest and on the Monongahela National Forest at Spice Run.
