The occurence is a scrub pine-oak woodland with an open understory and sparse ground vegetation. Downslope the community ends abruptly at Mill Creek where a large valley opens up with houses and agricultural fields. This is a large, steep barren bounded on either side by drainages.;Canopy vegetation is very open consisting primarily of Pinus virginana, Quercus stellata, Q. prinus and Juniperus virginiana. There is no subcanopy and virtually no shrub layer. The barren is very sparsely vegetated with Danthonia and Panicum occurring mostly on the ridge and in canopy gaps.
