Occurrence is a dry pine woodland on a SW-facing slope is undercut by a paved road which is, in turn, bordered by a small cleared valley containing Durgon Creek, residences and agricultural fields. To the west the community slowly grades into a more deciduous cover. To the east is a small ravine dominated by oaks and hickories and then a different shale barren community. Upslope to the north the cover becomes more deciduous at the summit.;There are small gaps which are somewhat frequent, but the canopoy seems more or less continuous. Litter is accumulated behind the trunks and changes in microtopography as well as under the shrubs.
Representativeness
Plot has perhaps slightly more pine cover than the majority of the community but is otherwise very representative. Allium cernuum was nearby (few plants) but not in plot.
