Occurence is a sparsely vegetated band of shale barren upslope from a highway. Above community forest becomes a more open woodland shale barren blending into a mixed deciduous forest upslope with a large component of Juniperus virginiana. Site is situated above a sparsely populated valley with small farms and open fields.;Homogeneous Pinus canopy, one large Quercus ilicifolia. homogeneous rocky ground surface with litter concentrated in pockets of various sizes due to topographic features and shrubs. Very sparse herbaceous layer but with many species present. Arabis bolter was browsed.
Representativeness
Quite representative of the band of vegetation extending about 100 feet wide across the length of the hill. We found Calystegia spitamea sss. purshiana, a shale barren near-endemic close to the plot in the same band.
