Occurrence is a dry mixed Juniperus-oak-hickory woodland on a fairly steep, S-facing low hill just south of the river plain of the South Branch of the Potomac River. It extends nearly to the top of the hill where hardwoods begin to dominate. The top of the hill and part of the north face have been cleared for house lots. The community ends to the south at the slope base where it is cut by a small road. The narrow valley floor and facing hills are farmed. Directly to the west on the slope is a small gulley with more hardwood trees and then follows a pine-dominated shale barren community (see Communitty B). To the east hardwods take over as the aspect changes.;Tree cover is quite thick but has some scattered gaps with Hypericum. There is substantial litter cover throughout most of the community, but it thins somewhat higher up the slope. There are several exotics present-probably from field below.
Representativeness
Plot is representative as it includes part of a gap but is mostly mixed forest.
