Occurrence is on a very steep, high concave bowl-like cliff overlooking a sharp bend in the Cacapon River just upstream of the Great Cacapon Dam. The cliff side faces WNW at the community plot. On around the turn to the north are lower rock cliffs which are hardwood forested above. To the south along the bowl the land lowers to a forested riverbank. The slope is somewhat undercut by the river. Over the summit to the east is a forested mountain.;The vegetation is patchy due to rock outcrops and fallen trees on the steep slopes with shallow soil. Much cascading of shale and some erosion by water is evident. Litter is accumulated behind low objects.
Representativeness
The plot is quite representative although Oenothera argillicola isn't that plentiful.
