Agriculture on river terraces below. Pine plantations on ridgetops above. Native matrix forests are mostly oak-hickory.;Steep south facing shale slope, probably calcareous. Large shale bedrock outcrops near the slope crest with fissile shale fragments spilling below. Community is a woodland dominated by Juniperus virginiana and Quercus muhlenbergii with heavy ground cover by Opuntia humisfusa. Trees appear old and there is no sign of disturbance to barren. Lepidoptera diversity very high.
