I mapped this place as generally NE in aspect, but is mostly E or slightly SE. This stand is at the lower edge of the property just above a draw which goes steeply downhill. The stand continues indefinitely south and north. Upslope is a very rocky and steep oak forest with more pine and hickory.;Quercus alba-Q. prinus forest with Nyssa and Acer rubrum in the sub-canopy. Some Vaccinium coverage in the shrub layer, but mostly oak-maple-Nyssa recruitment which seems to be the pattern in this stand. The aspect changes very gradually in the stand, but does not seem to affect the composition. Unsure why there are so few herbs, but so much tree recuitment.
Representativeness
This plot is predominantly mixed oak with minor heath understory with almost no herbs. Much of this stand is the same only some areas have smatterings of hickory and occasional pitch pine. White oak appears to be the local dominant.
