At the southenmost tip of the area about 50 m from the road with the river between. North of the plot is a former channel or backflow which is dry now.;This is a small community of sugar maple, hemlock, red oak, shagbark hickory, Fraxinus, etc. The canopy diversity clearly represents a richer area, but the herbaceous and shrub layer don't nessessarily. Much fewer exotics and disturbance plants than I expected, so perhaps not as many people frequent the area despite the convenience. This stand formally had a dense understory of hemlock which is now dying.
Representativeness
Enriched floodplain/river island community with mesic species. Diverse canopy cover. Plot placed to represent the high diversity of this small island. Plot lacks sycamore which occurs at the edges of the island.
