Plot is on a slope "bench". Upslope is very steep and rocky with oak-hickory forests. Downslope is steep and rocky, but more mesic with some draws. North is a drier oak forest with a thicker layer of heath.;This is an oak forest with a prominent Acer rubrum subcanopy. There are some other oaks here and is floristically similat to other oak forests, but this one is distinguished by the clear dominance of white oak. There are quite a few gaps here and there is one in the SW corner.
Representativeness
Largely white oak forest with other scattered oaks. Difficult to represent because of patches of very young forest and blowdowns. White oak and heaths well represented, but one or two Quercus rubra of Q. prinus may have been appropriate.
