This stand appears to be a linear band across this clope where the slope is steepest and most rocky. Above is an oak-hickory forest and below is mixed aok.;This variation on oak forests here is distinguished by its position and substrate. Its position on a mid-upper, SE slope is cool enough not support abundant heath cover and its substrate of colluvium is most habitable by vines and woody seedlings. There are some hickories, but mostly red and chestnut oaks do well here.
