This is a small community which is otherwise surrounded by pine-chestnut oak forest. The ridge is ~100 m above and the road is about 500 m below.;This slope is extremely exposed and dry, typically forming a Pinus-Quercus prinus-Kalmia forest, but the rockier portions of this slope are replaced with birch as observed at the southern end. Kalmia is dense here except where conditions are exceedingly rocky. Nyssa sylvatica appears to be important, too in some cases. Trees here are short statured and overtoped by Pinus Nyssa sylvatica appears to be important, too in some cases. Trees here are short statured and overtoped by Pinus.
Representativeness
Well represented community where rocky substrate favors Betula lenta instead of Quercus prinus. In some places Kalmia is more dense. One corner has some Quercus prinus which is not representative.
