Long narrow N - S running ridgeline separating Berkeley and Morgan Counties. The land is a DNR WMA. There is a road which follows along the ridge located ca. 50m SE from the plot. Much of the forest from CR 7/13 N has been either Oak - Hickory or Red Oak / Hamamelis.;Narrow ridgetop forest with exposed sandstone bedrock. The overstory is dominated by Quercus rubra and Carya ovalis with several browsed out native herbs growing on the forest floor. Some fire scars can be seen on several of the larger trees. Many of the herbs and S2 shrubs are growing on top and around the boulders. Out of reach from deer.
Representativeness
Large patch of Oak / Hickory forest located within a high wind resource polygon. Similar to plot JEFF.6 sampled yesterday on the Blue Ridge. Only here there is less Chestnut Oak and Witch Hazel.
