Wildlife Management Area with limited access. Top of knob is older chestnut oak / heath forest above a sandstone outcrop band. Below that is strong dominance by hickories.;Top of small knob in dissected plateau landscape. Less than 20 pines are scattered along ridgetop, growing amongst mostly larger oaks. Pines include short leaf, scrub, and pitch (at least that's what we're calling them today). Short leaf pine cored = years. Understory is dominated by huckleberry and blueberry, with moderate diversity of grasses and sedges.
Representativeness
Small patch of pine, embedded in and successional to oak / heath forest. Sampled for Pinus ecchinata for which we have little ecological or distributional data.
