Large tract of state land managed by the Parks Department. Much of the park observed headude west up Tomlinson is mature second growth forest. Mostly dominated by oaks. Downslope from the plot ~50m is Tomlinson Run to the east, north and south. Across Tomlinson Run to the east is a hiking trail. Most of the trails observed seem to get little use.;Small east facing nose/penninsula surrounded on three sides by Tomlinson Run. The overstory is a mixture of Quercus alba, Q. prinus and Q. rubra with a dense understory of Tsuga canadensis. The forest floor is nearly void of shrubs or herbs. Several of the trees appear to have had their lower bark stripped by beaver.
Representativeness
Small patch of mixed evergreen deciduous forest. Plot was placed to sample older stand of trees. This is the first Quercus spp/Tsuga canadensis forest sampled in this part of the state. It is very similar to stands sampled at MONF, GARI and others.
