East of the plot on flat plateau of ridge is a successional black cherry forest with a sterile understory. Just ~75m from the downhill edge of the plot runs the blue blazed trail. In the ridge plateau there is an extensive area with small-medium sized blowdowns from an event many years ago.;Plot is on edge of ridge table which slopes down to the river and faces west. There are several very large red oak and one big chestnut oak in the overstory. The T3 and S1 strata are occupied by beech and red maple. The understory is extremely sparse and the litter layer is very patchy with plenty of exposed soil.
