This area is around 4000ft. elevation and is close to Dolly Sods Wilderness area. The property is currently privately owned and has road access from A-Frame Rd. (part of Canaan Wildlife Refugee). The bog is approximately 247 acres and seems to be undisturbed within the past 100 yrs. Typha patches are starting to develop but no exotics have been seen. Fire has also played a role throughout this area in the past. Oddly a Pinus pungens is growing in the open wetland just 20M from the plot, cored 14cm = 49 years.;Young spruce stand on edge of Dobbins Slashing, southern side, towards upland. In the T layer red spruce are abundant. Below T layer is northern wild raisin, Vaccinium, cottongrass, Rubus hispidus, sphagnum, and Polytrichum. Property has now been proposed for state management and will hopefully be acquired soon. Hummocky wet peat may keep tree size small.
