The area around the wetland is a wind beaten Picea woodland. There is no surrounding upland forest to log. The trail we hiked in on runs along the northeastern edge of the wetland. The trail is an old rail grade / road and appears to have been recently driven on coming from the direction of Cabin Mountain.;Open herbaceous community dominated by Carex folliculata over Sphagnum. The community is early successional. The area was historically logged and burned. There is no active beaver sign but the area has probably remained open due to beaver infuence. The area is currently leased by a hunting club. There are several sickly Abies balsamea shrubs growing just outside the plot.
Representativeness
Small patch community. Our stand is relatively small but I can see the community signature repeated across the landscape. This is somewhat typical for this community type.
