Steep gradient river through industrial coal/timber lands and small holdings with trailers. Downstream are known occurrences of Virginia Spiraea and Barbara's buttons, which we are searching for here.;Frequently flooded boulder bar along class 3-4 rapids reach of river. Community is on flood battered head of island. Lower positions in plot were flooded recently with fresh wet silt on cobble and basal stems. Community is a sunny shrub-prairie dominated by big blue stem over shorter shrubs (blackgum, white azalea, alder) with a ring of 2m tall sycamore on river's edge. Abundance of white-topped aster mimics Rand's goldenrod found in similar habitat elsewhere.
Representativeness
