See plots USFS. 330,331. Transect bearing 88 degrees. The first 6 chains passed through an open bog community. From chains 7-18 the transect passes through a marshy alder glade. At chain 21 changed bearing to 150 degrees avoid a beaver pond. From chains 22-30 the transect passes through a Marshy meadow dominated by grasses. From chains 31-74 the transect ascended up a ridge through a northern hardwood forest. Chains 75-82 the transect ended on a flat ridgetop dominated by northern hardwoods.;Swampy alder community. The ground was covered with graminoids dominated by Glyceria melicaria and Carex spp.. The forb layer consisted of Galium tinctorium, Mitchella repens and Symplocarpus fetidus to name a few. Plot lacks both an overstory and a fern layer.
Representativeness
The USFS plots were placed at random points along a compass bearing. Transects were broken into 20 meter chains. This transect was 82 meters long and the plot was located at chain 16. The plot is representative of a swampy Alnus incana ssp. rugosa communi
