See plots USFS.339,340,343,344. High ridge and back slope with mixed oak pine communities shrub/ herb layer densities vary with openings in forest canopy. Some microsites contain white pine and red spruce. Cliff areas contain mosses and Paronychia argyrocoma.;ESE facing slope. Large area of exposed bedrock. No canopy, mostly pioneer species (lichens and mosses). A few vascular plants found on the edge. Site is surrounded by surrounded by several large Quercus prinus snagsapparently killed by Gypsy Moth. The area underneath the snags has a thick herb layer.

USFS plots were laid out at random points on a transect. This transect was placed to sample the mixed oak pine communities along the ridgetop of North Fork Mountain. This plot landed in a large area of exposed bedrock with primarily non-vasular vegetation
