Valley bottom is mostly converted to agriculture. WMA has constructed/managed wetlands. Floodplain forest is likely repeated in small patches up and down the river. Across river is a small patch of Nuphar advena in water.;Floodplain forest on point bar. Forest has a diverse canopy including buckeye, black maple, bitternut hickory, and red oak. A few dead snags create a canopy opening. There is fluvial microtopgraphy of swales and humps. There are large flood deposited logs and flotsam piles in the stand. Many black cherry trees are killed by beaver chewing. Less dominance by buckeye creates a sunnier understory at sampling date compared to plot VABE.1.
Representativeness
Plot is about half of a small patch of floodplain forest on a point bar. Plot sampled in May and again on 20 September 2005 to document late season flora. Cover for a species entered in database is the highest of the two sampling dates.
