Slope of south Glady Creek in a land unit managed by the state parks department. There are several nearby large canopy openings where old growth once stood. Below the plot the overall community is the same but with codominace by tulip poplar. There is a small, seepy cliff break 2m below the plot.;Rich forest on a northerly slope with dominance by oak, hickory and sugar maple. There is a large amount of decayed , downed wood and a lush herbaceous layer. Several of the large overstory trees are dead or dying, allowing a great deal of light to reach the forest floor.

Small patch placed to sample rich mesic forest dominated by oak and hickory. Plot was placed to exclude tulip poplar from canopy.
