Large undeveloped floodplain / wetland complex of Kanawha River. The communities range from buttonbush swamps, Quercus palustris swamps, open Leersia meadows and this Q. bicolor swamp. To the W ca 40m is Old Rt 35. To the N ca 100m the forest becomes succesional tulip poplar.;Even aged forest of Quercus bicolor with some Q. palustris intermixed. The forest floor undulates and the lows likely pond when it rains. There is a flow channel headed N on the eastern edge of the plot. There is little veg growing on it and some flotsam accumulation. There is an abundance of Toxicodendron radicans in all layers.
Representativeness
Small patch of deciduously forested swamp. Plot was placed to accentuate dominance by Quercus bicolor. This is similar to the two plots of swamp white oak sampled in Randolph county only here it appears less weedy.
