Part of an 82 acre tract which has been protected from logging for water supply. Creek bottom to south becomes dominated by Tsuga. Some areas have younger forest with abundant coarse woody debris reflecting natural catostrophic disturbance. Forest as a whole is very patchy with complex structure and abundant legacy features. To the west is an old reservoir bed which was previously used for Morgantown water supply.;Old growth Quercus alba with Tsuga canadensis and Fagus grandifolia growing up in understory. Shrub and herb layers are very sparse and species poor.

Old growth stand in patchy mosaic of virgin forest. This plot has large black and white oak with little coarse woody debris, but other areas (see plot WVBG.2) have younger trees and abundant woody debris reflecting natural disturbance events.
