Big Chico Creek ER, California State University Chico: Stand consists of Pinus ponderosa 100 years old and younger with fire scars occurring around their trunks. Multi-stemmed hardwoods are also evidence that fire has occurred here in the past. Some Pinus seedlings and saplings and a few Calocedrus decurrens seedlings present. The partly burned shrubs suggest that the fire that occurred here was low to moderate in intensity. Quercus kelloggii is single-stemmed. This stand is defined by a grassy understory. A fire occurred here in 1999. There is some evidence of thinning in the understory.
