Location Narrative ? Deer grass stand on the east bank of the South Fork of the American River, situated on a floodplain, between a Quercus wislizeni stand and a band of willows, ash, and Rubus discolor. The ground is still drying from winter flooding and tadpoles are still present in some of the drying pools. Cobbly and decomposed granite substrate with loamy sand beneath the deer grass hummocks. Adjacent oaks and ash overhang the stand but are not rooted in it. Dams upstream has changed the flood regime.
